After 27 years in the U.S. Army, Red Jake’s founder, Rusty Sears decided to make his passion his profession. Having made pieces for himself for years and after purchasing a wood mill, Rusty gradually began to make furniture and artwork for neighbors and friends. Thru disciplined customer focus and attention to detail, he built a loyal customer base. Although much of our time is spent in the shop working on projects, we still spend enough time in the woods gathering logs to keep our hearts happy! At Red Jake, we are responsible for every step of our product from the forest to final product. Almost all our wood was saved from landfills or wood piles as a result of storms, new construction, or the death of the tree. We mill the wood to meet our needs, dry the wood in a solar kiln, and make pieces to order. Located in the Shenandoah Valley of northern Virginia, we proudly limit our wood to those found in the area.
